MEETING MINUTES
04/09/08

Save the Kasota Prairie, Inc.
Board Meeting Minutes
St. Peter Community Center
St. Peter, MN
04/09/08

Minutes taken by: Medea Myhra
Present: Robert Idso, Jim Tracy, Eric Steinmetz, Mark Halverson, Mike Myhra, Medea Myhra, Ross Gersten

1. President Idso called the meeting to order at 7:13 PM.
2. Members reviewed the board meeting minutes from 01/09/08.
3. President’s Report: No report.
4. Treasurer’s Report: Additional information: $14.16 in stock from Quest.
5. Old Business:
a. Judy Cooper Memorial: Eric reported that the Food Co-op’s idea of where to put the memorial was different than SKP’s, but the location was better for transporting it so Eric said to go ahead. It is made of limestone, and looks nice. It overlooks the pond.
b. Tax / gambling issues: Eric reported that he made some head-way. He contacted the Department of Revenue and got a personal contact. We owe just under $20 on interest for taxes, but this will probably be waived. Bob signed one document that Eric brought, for the CEO side, and Eric will sign the Gambling Manager’s side. SKP will have to send in monthly tax forms even with zeros on them. SKP needs to get everything done with the Revenue department, then have a plan to go to the Gambling Control Board. We want to terminate gambling cleanly so SKP will have a clean slate in case we want to go into gambling again in the future.
6. New Business:
a. Ross stated that the Food Co-op would like to do a Dedication Ceremony for the Judy Cooper Memorial jointly with SKP. The Food Co-op would like this event to be after June 1st, but set the date after May 15th. SKP is proposing it be before our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, July 8th at 5:00. Potluck will follow at 6:00/6:30 along with the 6:30 Annual Meeting.
b. Chair made a motion to ask for the Food Co-op to give us an expenditure receipt for the Judy Cooper Memorial and how much has been raised, then SKP will look at how much we owe them. This will be left between Mark and Margo.
c. Food Co-op members have been cleaning up dog owner’s waste at the Prairie parking lot. The members have asked if SKP would put up a sign to remind dog owners to pick up after their dogs. Bob will contact Unimin about a sign.
d. Road clean-up: Wednesday, April 30th at noon and Saturday, May 3rd at noon. The first mile near Kasota and the third mile near Mankato will be done this year.
e. Eric reported about the Prairie Advisory Committee meeting. Some people’s positions have changed, and there have been changes in prairie restoration. There is going to be a spring burn in zone 2 and maybe zone 1. They are trying to control goldenrod and thistle. Moraine and curly dock are of secondary concern. Buckthorn will be taken care of in the parking lot. Eric asked about an aerial photo they had on the wall. Unimin appears to be interested in land south of the county road.
f. Mike brought up the fact that the water is on the edge of the trail in the first bend. This may have to be discussed with Bob Otto about mowing a slightly different path.
g. Mike gave Tab Benoit an SKP T-shirt, in place of giving it to Neil Young earlier.
7. Mark moved to adjourn. Jim seconded. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:30. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 The Annual Meeting held at the Kasota Park shelter. Judy Cooper Memorial Dedication Ceremony at 5:00, followed by Potluck at 6:00 and Annual Meeting at 6:30.
